Classroom Books

Here are some
books I have made with my Kindergarteners in "Writer's Workshop."
The students
LOVE making them and of course, reading them. We create, illustrate, and
publish the book only
to place it in our classroom library once finished. Students may
check the books out and
take them home to share with their families. At the end of the year,
I hold a drawing and
each child gets to keep one class book. Keep in mind, we try to make
a class book a week....
and with that many, it is hard to share them all. (here are just a
few examples) Enjoy!

Eberhart's
Explorers
Get to know our Class!
I try to do a family
project every month and assign my students a task to
complete, at home, with their family. In the month of August,
students are
to create an All About Me page that can be bound in a class
scrapbook. Students
have opportunity to share their pages with the class before it is
compiled into our book.
This one is certainly a favorite among students to check out and the
ONLY book I keep
at the end of the year. It allows a creative way for me to have a "photo
album" of
my students from year to year. (Parents are notified not to included
any items
on the page they would like returned)

Chicka Chicka
Boom Boom, Look who's in our Room!
I make this book at
the beginning of every year as a way for students
to become familiar with their new classmates and their names.
Students
are given their name (each letter is cut apart) and they have to put it
back together on the "chicka tree." It is a favorite for all!

Our Shape Book
This book is a FUN way to
review shapes and introduce our shape poems.
Students enjoy creating the shapes on our rug with their friends!

10 Apples Up on Top
After reading Dr. Suess's
"Ten Apples Up on Top," in lieu of Johnny Appleseed's
Birthday, we make a apple book of our own! Students are assigned a number
and instructed to draw themselves and use a red ink pad to create their
number of apples.

We Hope to See Under Our Tree..
Students are given an
Ellison di-cut tree and instructed to create their most desired gift
for the upcoming holiday. Around this time, students are beginning
to use creative spelling...
it's always fun to see what they're asking Santa for and especially
how they are learning
to write and sound out!

It Snowed and I...
We made this book upon
returning from a few "snow days." Students were happy to
share what they did during their unexpected break!

Run, Run as fast as you can...You
can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!
After reading multiple
versions of The Gingerbread Man, we decided to illustrate who
we would run from if we were being chased! Some students thought the fox
was scariest,
while others said they would run from the sow if they were the
gingerbread man!

The Name Book
This book was written and illustrated during Literacy Work
Stations. Students were instructed
to "read the room" and find and illustrate something that began
like their name.

I wish I had 100...
This book was created on our 100th
day of school.

If I were a Leprechaun...
We created this book on St. Patrick's Day after
being visited by a Leprechaun!
Mr. Leprechaun played tricks on us and would leave his green foot prints
all over our room!
After a failed attempt at trying to catch him, our class was taken on a
hunt throughout the
school to find the "pot of gold" that he left for us. We had fun
brainstorming what all we
would do if WE were a sneaky leprechaun.

How Seeds Travel
We wrote & illustrated this book after completing a Reading
Series unit on plants and seeds.
Students learned about how seeds travel and are carried to various places
by wind, sea,
animals, etc. After students made a class book, they planted
their own seeds!
